Universal test platform for pharmaceuticals: Hydrogels, syringes and beyond

The pharmaceutical industry develops new products in the medical sector to treat and prevent diseases or administer drugs. To ensure that they comply with the laws and regulations governing this industry, all new drugs or other products must be thoroughly tested to ensure their safety and quality.

This seminar provides an overview of mechanical, rheological, and other testing methods that are used for a selection of pharmaceutical and biomedical samples and tools: semi-solids, hydrogels, and hydrogel-based products as well as syringes.

The seminar also introduces the Universal Testing Machine (UTM) Micro as a testing platform, which, as one single device, can carry out rheological, tribological, syringe, and fatigue tests as well as monitor the curing behavior of hydrogels. The UTM, as the seminar shows, is a testing platform that provides valuable support for the development and quality control of pharmaceutical applications.

Highlights

  • Basics of rheology and mechanical testing
  • Application examples: hydrogels and medical products
  • Test methodologies: rotational and oscillatory rheology, tribology, syringe testing, fatigue, UV curing
  • Testing setups for the UTM Micro testing platform
