Processing and quality control of milk
From the raw processing stage all the way to the final packaged product, our instruments help you guarantee the highest quality standards for your milk. We offer inline density process sensors, density meters, and refractometers for the entire process so you can observe changes in density and determine the fat content of solids (fat, proteins, lactose, minerals, and vitamins) in both milk and milk products (e.g., condensed milk). Dynamic light scattering analysis enables monitoring of the particle size and zeta potential of whole and skimmed milk, giving you valuable information about the quality and stability of your product, while laser diffraction determines homogenization efficiency to control the quality of milk processing with the highest reproducibility.
Milk powder production and storage
Milk powder is a vital ingredient in infant nutrition and widely used in cheese, yogurt, baked goods, confectionery, and chocolate. Compared to liquid milk, it offers longer shelf life, reduced weight, and easier transportation. Inline monitoring of the concentration and dry solid content of milk with process sensors like L-Rix is critical for the optimization of processes and the quality of the final product. Conduct tapped density measurements with the Ultratap density analyzer to predict the flow and compressibility properties of powder, as well as critical characteristics for the production, packaging, transportation, and storage of a product. With the Ultrapyc gas pycnometer, you can also measure skeletal density, an important characteristic of spray-dried milk.
Powder rheometers let you imitate manufacturing, storage, transport, and dissolution. Use flowability, compressibility, and permeability as a sensitive method of quality control for products like coffee creamer powders. The particle size distribution of milk formula depends on manufacturing and processing conditions, drying, storage, and formulation instructions. Key properties such as solubility, flow, dust behavior, dosing, and bulk density depend on particle size and shape, which can be determined by the Litesizer series particle size analyzers. RapidOxy 100 provides easy, fast, and safe determination of oxidation and storage stability without any sample preparation, while a polarimeter can quickly and easily determine lactose content.
Processed milk products
Consistency plays a big role in whether or not customers enjoy a final dairy product. Use our inline process sensors to monitor the density (with L-Dens) and concentration (with L-Rix) of milk and dairy products. For your butter production, gas pycnometry can determine the state of crystallization according to density.
Product development of dairy products
Rheological investigations have a wide application range in the research and development of new products, such as avoiding phase separation in milk drinks. Certain parameters, like shear stress and viscosity, are crucial for developing yogurt and certain cream-like dairy products. The ViscoQC rotational viscometer is perfectly suited for dynamic viscosity determinations of dairy products for single, multi-point, and yield-point measurements. For more complex rheological analyses, our rotational rheometer, RheolabQC, is a great choice.
Quality control of dairy products
Use our microwave digestion systems – featuring vessel concepts, state-of-the-art sensor technology, and the highest safety standards – to detect toxic elements in different kinds of food. Automated quality control reduces handling errors and saves time, and combining a DMA 4002/5002/6002, Xsample 530, and a sample recovery unit lets you conduct automated measurements of fermented milk products for quality control.
