Application of instrumented indentation, scratch testing and tribology for thermal spray coatings

Thermal spray coatings are a surface engineering process where a material in a molten or semi-molten state is sprayed onto a surface to create a protective or functional coating. Thermal spray coatings are widely used across various industries for their ability to enhance the surface properties of components such as wear and corrosion resistance, thermal insulation, and increased hardness. Mechanical surface characterization techniques, such as instrumented indentation, scratch testing, and tribology can unveil important insights into the material properties of these coatings and contribute to more efficient application of this method.

This webinar will show how these methods can be applied to the thermal spray coatings, what kind of results they provide, and also demonstrate good practice examples when performing hardness, adhesion measurement and wear tests.
