Temperature Control Systems
This new temperature control unit is the first Peltier heating system with heating elements above and below the sample (US-Patent 6,571,610). Temperature gradients are completely eliminated and the heating and cooling rates are unbelievably fast - typically 30 °/min per minute (compared to 1 °/min typically with a fluid circulator).

Test times are reduced - almost cut in half - while reproducibility is improved. For example, it is very useful to raise the temperature to 100 °C for cleaning. After cleaning is completed, it takes only a few minutes to set the system back to the filling temperature.
In short, the combination of the new temperature calibration routine and the upper and lower Peltier temperature control system eliminates gradients while reducing the test time and improving reproducibility!

Fully Automatic Temperature Calibration
Anton Paar has developed an automatic temperature calibration which makes the calibration as simple as possible. Just load the calibration probe into the instrument and the temperature calibration is carried out automatically at the touch of a button.

Motor
The unique rheometer motor design concept - the permanent magnet synchronous drive - is only available from Anton Paar. The linear characteristics of the motor in combination with extremely fast transient response provide excellent control of stress or shear rate, depending on the operating mode. A wide measuring range in torque, position and speed are just a few additional features of this exceptional design.

Diffusion air bearing
The diffusion air bearing of the SmartPave is manufactured in our own high precision production facility. Each bearing is machined to tight tolerances and undergoes exhaustive testing to ensure quality. A patent-protected normal force measuring sensor (US 6,167,752), inside each air bearing is standard.

New Easy to Use Software
The completely new, user-friendly software has been designed especially for the needs of the asphalt industry. All test procedures required for SHRP testing according to AASHTO TP5 are easily accomplished. Other test procedures, such as the strain sweep linearity test, are no more than a mouse click away.

Test Types
In addition to the well-known conventional tests such as: Flow curves
- Viscosity versus time, temperature or shear stress with controlled stress (CSS)
- Creep / recovery
- Oscillation with controlled stress
- Oscillation with controlled strain
- Normal force
- Relaxation following steady shear
- Relaxation following step strain
...the asphalt rheometer also performs:
- Superimposed oscillation and rotation
- Simultaneous multiwave oscillation
