Magnetorheology

The Magneto-Rheological Device (MRD) is used to investigate the influence of a magnetic field on magnetorheological fluids (MRF). The applied magnetic flux density of up to 1 Tesla is controlled by the RheoPlus software and can be adjusted according to requirements. In addition, a Hall and a temperature sensor allow online measurements of the actual magnetic flux density and temperature. For high-shear measurements the TwinGap system (exclusive license from BASF) can be applied.

Technical highlights

  • Rheological measurements simultaneous to an applied magnetic field
  • Maximum magnetic flux density: 1 T
  • Liquid temperature control: Temperature range -20 to 70 °C
  • Online measurement of magnetic flux density
  • Online measurement of actual temperature
  • Measuring system: Parallel plate 20 mm
  • TwinGap: Double-gap system for high-shear measurements in magnetic fields up to 1.4 T (developed by BASF and exclusively licensed to Anton Paar)

Software

  • Software control of the applied magnetic field
  • Display of the rheometer, teslameter and temperature sensor data
  • Predefined MRD workbook
  • Automated demagnetization process
