TAB, a European battery producer with facilities in Slovenia and North Macedonia, uses Anton Paar’s L-Dens 7400 inline density meter to improve electrolyte density measurement in lead-acid battery production. Integrated into TAB’s closed-loop formation system, the sensor enables precise, uninterrupted monitoring, reduces maintenance, and supports consistent battery performance and stable production output.
Electrolyte density as a quality-critical parameter
TAB is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of lead-acid batteries, with more than 60 years of experience. The company produces industrial and starter batteries at its facilities in Slovenia and North Macedonia and is also expanding into lithium-ion technology.
At this scale, reliable process control is essential. During the formation process, accurate electrolyte density directly affects battery performance and lifetime, with even small deviations leading to potential production delays.
A more reliable inline measurement solution
TAB previously used sensors that frequently clogged and delivered drifting readings. With more than 1.5 million cells in production, these issues extended formation cycles, increased labor costs, and raised the risk of non-compliant products.
TAB therefore needed a more reliable inline density measurement solution that could support stable process control and reduce maintenance effort.
Automated monitoring with L-Dens 7400
Integrated into TAB’s closed-loop formation system, Anton Paar’s L-Dens 7400 inline density meter provides precise and uninterrupted electrolyte density monitoring throughout the formation cycle.
Its wider-bore design eliminated the clogging issues of previous sensors. The system now runs fully automated and requires only monthly automatic cleaning, allowing TAB’s team to focus on quality control instead of maintenance.
Higher output and stronger process control
Since installing the first L-Dens 7400 sensor, TAB has seen virtually no deviation from target values. This has helped the company achieve tighter process control, fewer delays, more stable production planning, and consistently high product quality.
"It’s a fully automated system that requires only monthly automatic cleaning, allowing our team to focus on quality control."
