I applied for the position of management trainee in the administration business area at Anton Paar right after my studies. It was a unique opportunity to work in this area and for a socially engaged company.
Since I started working during a special year for Anton Paar – it was our 100th anniversary – my start was rather unusual. I landed straight in the organization of our big celebration. Together with colleagues, I was on the organizing committee and was responsible for the whole process. This included managing the invitations, handing the transfers of all international and national guests, and organizing the come-together day, which had various “stations” where staff could get to know the company better. A lot of infrastructure was required for that day, which I had to organize hand-in-hand with utilities management. I was also responsible for all purchase requisitions. The icing on the cake was the anniversary celebration at the Graz Convention Center, where I helped register guests.
Now I’m starting in administration and am diving into the multifaceted topics of the business area. These include technical employee protection and organizing instructions, and the first-level support of the help desk. We provide support for when employees need assistance with things like positions, signature titles and other things, assistance at reception, and emergencies. We also handle matters like maintenance planning or setting up a knowledge database for management.
These tasks require a high degree of organizational skill as well as interdisciplinary thinking. You have to be ready to jump in everywhere and actively help. This is useful for my personal development. And my start during the 100-year celebration was helpful because it meant many colleagues from various departments already knew who I was. Also included in my business area are order processing and staff administration – which I have not had the chance to familiarize myself with yet. But I will soon work in that domain, too, so I will get deeper insight into the topics. I have the opportunity to actually help craft the training program I am part of. In the future, I will also be able to work in finishing and assembly, so I will also get to know these aspects of the company.
Through its management trainee program, Anton Paars offers employees the opportunity to gain knowledge about the whole company. In addition, you feel like you are part of a big family. Even at a young age, you are trusted with responsibility. This enables personal development in the company, and means you are well-prepared for the challenging tasks associated with the position.
