Characterizing proteins: From particle size to isoelectric points and molecular mass

Characterizing proteins: From particle size to isoelectric points and molecular mass

Therapeutic proteins, such as antibodies, hormones or enzymes are indispensable in clinical applications and represent a major focus of the pharmaceutical industry. However, formulation of stable protein drugs is challenging, as most proteins are sensitive to temperature and pH shifts. Their shelf life is usually quite short, and protein degradation as well as aggregation processes that influence protein activity and functionality start to occur. In this live webinar, we will show why the Litesizer 500 is a perfect tool to characterize protein solutions.

We will:

  • provide a short introduction about protein structure and function with a focus on antibodies
  • discuss how dynamic light scattering can help to characterize protein stability
  • discuss zeta potential and isoelectric point measurements
  • discuss molecular mass & second virial coefficient measurements by static light scattering
