From Shape to Performance: Understanding and Analyzing Powder Morphology – Corcelles

This seminar provides an in-depth introduction to powder morphology and the latest techniques for evaluating the morphological properties of particulate materials. Participants will explore practical methods, analytical tools, and emerging technologies used in material characterization. The session is designed to help attendees better understand how powder shape and size (Litesizer DIA series), powder flowability and interactions (MCR XX3 Rheometer) and surface features and density (Ultratap) influence material behavior, processing performance, and final product quality.

  • Powder Morphology Basics – Shape, size, surface features, and their impact on material behavior
  • Particle Size & Shape Analysis (Litesizer DIA) – Dynamic image analysis for morphology evaluation
  • Flowability & Interactions (MCR XX3 Rheometer) – Shear, cohesion, and flow behavior of powders
  • Density & Surface Characteristics (Ultratap) – Bulk/tapped density and compressibility
  • Hands-On & Data Interpretation – Practical measurements, group analysis, and linking results to performance

Follow up the hands-on, data interpretation and analysis will be discussed in small groups.

Grupo objetivo: This seminar is aimed at professionals seeking deeper insight into techniques for evaluating material morphology, especially in material sciences, particle formulation, and powder processing, as well as users exploring new characterization methods.
Requisitos previos: Participants should ideally have basic knowledge of material characterization and already work with particle analysis instrumentation.

Philippe Renaud

Philippe Renaud, born in 1969 in Fribourg, studied electronic engineering at HES-SO in Yverdon and spent 12 years as an International Service Engineer and Service Manager for XRF instruments. Since 2010, building on his strong expertise in service and complex analytical systems, he has worked as a Product Specialist across multiple product lines, including Automation, Rheology, DSC, Material Surface Characterization, and Mixer/Extrusion instruments.

Dr. David Burnand

David Burnand, born in 1985 in Lausanne, studied chemical engineering at HEIA-FR in Fribourg. After completing his Master of Science in Chemistry, he earned his PhD in colloidal chemistry from the Adolphe Merkle Institute in 2018, focusing on the design and characterization of polymer-coated nanoparticles for biomedical applications. Building on his strong expertise in nanomaterials, David has been working since 2022 as an Application Specialist for material characterization and rheology at Anton Paar Switzerland.
 

Dr. Marija Petrović

Marija Petrović, born in 1992, studied pharmacy and earned her PhD in Biopharmacy from the University of Geneva, specializing in nanomedicine. Her research focused on RNA and STING ligand nanocomplexes for cancer immunotherapy, with an emphasis on nanoparticle characterization and translational relevance, which later was translated to NanoSphere platform. Building on this expertise, she has been working since November 2025 as a Product Specialist at Anton Paar Switzerland.
