Polymer Rheology Masterclass (TX)

Join us for this polymer rheology masterclass designed to provide a sound basis of knowledge on how rheological measurements benefit those working with polymeric materials especially polyolefins.

Key learnings for the participant:  

Attendees will be provided a refresher on flow and viscoelastic properties followed by real world examples of the use of rheological measurements of polymer samples. By the end of the class, attendees will better understand which rheological test is appropriate for the solutions they seek.

Who should attend?   

The class is designed for all levels of prior knowledge. Students, professors, process engineers, plastics engineers, formulation chemists, and all persons interested in polymer rheology will benefit.

Daily Workshop Schedule:

  • 10:00: Welcome
  • 10:15: Introduction to Polymers, Review of viscosity, flow, and viscoelastic behavior, Rotational (steady shear) test methods
  • 12:30: Lunch with a small lunch and learn presentation on Anton Paar Brabender’s torque rheometers and lab scale extruders
  • 13:30: Oscillatory (dynamic) tests and Dynamic Mechanical Thermal Analysis
  • 15:00: Lab session and discussion
  • 16:00: End of class

Matthias Walluch

Matthias Walluch is part of the International Product Competence team in the Business Area Rheometry at Anton Paar GmbH headquarters in Graz. After completing his Master's degree in Polymer Engineering and Science at the Montanuniversitaet Leoben, he obtained his PhD with a focus on polymer processing and material characterization at the University of Leoben in cooperation with the Polymer Competence Center Leoben (PCCL). Since 2019, he has been working at Anton Paar as a product specialist for polymer rheology and dynamic mechanical analysis.
