Millions of tons of virgin and recycled thermoplastic polymers are produced each year. These plastics are heated to their melt state for shaping into the desired shape then cooled to solidify to the final product. The importance of the relationship between molecular structure (e.g., molecular weight distribution, branching), rheology, and processability for polymer melts was identified long ago. At that time, recycled plastics were not within the vision of the industry. With the heavy emphasis today on recycled plastics, understanding the relationship between structure, rheology, processability and performance is even more crucial.
