Anton Paar Asphalt Days: Learn everything you need to know about asphalt testing in our digital workshop

Want to learn more about the use of analytical instruments in asphalt and bitumen quality testing to maximize returns? This workshop will show how Anton Paar’s measuring solutions help fine-tune properties in refineries, permit smooth and safe storage and distribution, and let testing labs obtain reliable and traceable results for product characterization and classification – always with the goal of satisfying international standards and product specifications to allow seamless further processing for consumers.

The digital workshop will include:

  • Presentations covering typical asphalt and bitumen quality testing challenges – and an overview of measuring solutions
  • A live demonstration of measurements on instruments
  • Q&A sessions

By the end of the workshop you’ll understand how our analytical instruments offer valuable insights into material properties which affect processing of your asphalt and bitumen, e.g. long-term stability and consistency. You’ll recognize how the right measuring instruments optimize your products so they withstand all environmental conditions. And you’ll have the basics on how to boost productivity and reduce your environmental footprint.

Workshop program (CET UTC+01:00):

09:00-09:10 Refinery processing and classification of different types of bitumen
09:10-10:00 What to consider when testing different types of bitumen with conventional testing methods.
10:00-10:30 Overall performance-based characterisation of Bitumen and Mastic using the DSR
Break
11:00-11:45 Asphalt and bitumen emulsions with better formulations and increased storage stability
11:45-12:15 The importance of viscosity for the distribution of asphalt and bitumen
12:15-12:45 How fast, accurate density measurements streamline the asphalt and bitumen trade
Lunch break
13:30-14:00 Verification of binders using rheological methods
14:00-14:45 Further standards to determine asphalt binder behavior
Break
15:15-16:00 Methods to determine and optimize further material properties

Siegfried Hold, M.A.

Siegfried Hold joined the Lab Density department at Anton Paar in 2003. While still occupied with finishing his Master’s degree for ‘Innovation Management’ at the University of Applied Sciences ‘Campus 02’ in Graz, he became the product manager for Anton Paar’s world-leading benchtop density meters in 2008. Since 2019 he has been focusing even more on close cooperation with customers and the development of new products in his position as market development manager for petroleum industries at Anton Paar GmbH.

Dr. techn. Aleksandra Mitrovic

Dr. Aleksandra Mitrovic has a background in biochemistry, which she earned at the University of Sciences in Novi Sad, Serbia. She completed her Ph.D. in Molecular Biotechnology from Graz University of Technology and subsequently worked in the field of applied biocatalysis through various industrial projects. In 2017, Aleksandra joined Anton Paar as a global Product Manager for laser diffraction, where she has accumulated 8 years of experience and continues to deepen her expertise in this specialized field.

Kenji Yamamoto

Since last 6 years, Dr. Kenji Yamamoto is working as a global product manager at Anton Paar ProveTec. He is responsible for the flash point tester portfolio, including the market leading PMA X00 and the brand-new ABA X00 and TAG X00 series. In responsibility of his product line he is also actively participating in working groups of the ASTM, CEN, and DIN standardization organizations. Dr. Kenji Yamamoto studied physics and prior to his work at Anton Paar ProveTec, he did his doctoral studies in the field of physical chemistry and biomedicine at the Freie Universität Berlin.

Tamara Kurzmann

Tamara Kurzmann works as application specialist for viscometers at Anton Paar. Her job is to test water-like up to paste-like samples with rotational viscometers to figure out the best solution for your daily problems. Each sample - even a sticky one - finds its viscometer. Solving your problems in quality control is her challenge.

Andreas Lutz (Anton Paar Germany GmbH)

Andreas Lutz, born in 1986, received a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Applied Science of Esslingen in 2015. In 2016, he started working with the International Product Management Team for Rheology at Anton Paar. As Product Specialist for rheology and rheometry, Andreas was responsible for the SmartPave instrument family and rheological characterization of asphalt binder and bituminous products. In 2019, he became international product manager responsible for the continuous development of the SmartPave instrument family as well as for the MCR72 and 92 rheometers, which are used for rheological quality control.

Giorgia De Matteis

Giorgia De Matteis works as application specialist for particle characterization and surface charge at Anton Paar GmbH. She graduated from Graz University of Technology with a Master´s degree in Chemical and Pharmaceutical Engineering and worked as researcher at the Karl-Franzens University of Graz in the field of pharmaceutical technology.

Christian Kleinjung, M. Sc.

Christian Kleinjung graduated as Master of Science at Technical University of Berlin in Business Administration and Engineering. Since 2020 he has been a Product manager for the product line Consistency at Anton Paar ProveTec. Responsible for Penetration and Breaking Point his main focus is the technical development of conventional test methods for the asphalt and bitumen industry. He is also an active member of ASTM and DIN, EN standardization committees.
