Joe Flow - What Do Rheological Behavior and Road Traffic Have in Common?
You've all heard road traffic news like: "On the M1 approaching Brent Cross in London 12 km of slow-flowing traffic." Parts of this vocabulary look familiar to Joe Flow, because they also occur in rheology!
If you were to look at this point of the M1 from above with the eyes of a rheologist and a little imagination, it would look like a large cylinder measuring geometry. In this ring-shaped shear gap, the "dispersion", which contains many "cars/particles" of different sizes, can flow well, or not so well.
