Save precious lab time and reduce paperwork so you can get back to doing what you do best: producing great beer, wine, and spirits. The Alex 301 and Alex 501 alcohol and extract meters deliver fast, accurate in-house alcohol and extract analysis – without the need for routine reference analysis. Based on patented, industry-proven technology, operation is as simple as touching a button, with results in just two to four minutes. Each instrument features storage capacity for up to 1,000 measurements and can store fermentation curves for tracking up to 40 batches. Designed for small to medium-sized breweries, wineries, and distilleries, Alex 301 and Alex 501 are ideal universal analysis solutions for producers with growing or diverse product portfolios.
Key features
Monitor up to 40 fermentations simultaneously
The special fermentation monitor mode gives you full control over up to 40 ongoing fermentations at the same time. Each fermentation process is tracked via density-based fermentation curves (apparent extract), which are clearly assigned to individual tanks using sample IDs. As new measurement data becomes available, it is automatically added to the chart shown on the large, user-friendly display. This real-time monitoring allows you to spot any irregularities (e.g., whether the fermentation is progressing too quickly or risks getting stuck) so you can take immediate corrective action and ensure product quality.

Measurement of alcohol and extract content
Precisely measure alcohol and extract content at the final stages of your beverage’s fermentation and gain insight into how your product evolves during flavor blending or secondary fermentation in the bottle – ensuring consistent taste and quality across batches. These results serve as the foundation for accurate tax calculations and provide proof that each bottle contains exactly what the label promises.

Standardized sample handling for intuitive operation
Simple and standardized sample preparation ensures consistent results across measurements. If turbidity levels are too high, a warning alert notifies you that additional filtration is needed. To streamline the workflow, the Alex alcohol and extract meter also supports unique sample naming and stores customized measuring methods for different beverage types. An integrated peristaltic pump handles automatic sample filling, and simple adjustment with deionized water ensures efficient performance with minimal maintenance. A sample preparation kit for cloudy beers and wines is included in the scope of supply.

Suitable for beer, wine, cider, sake, and non-turbid spirits and liqueurs
This versatile alcohol and extract meter is built for a wide range of beverages. In craft beer production, it reliably measures everything from bright lagers to deep black stouts, as well as bock, light beers, and creative beer mixtures. For winemakers, it covers the full spectrum: red, white, and rosé wines – whether still or sparkling, bottle- or tank-fermented. The device also handles high-proof alcohols, from barrel-aged spirits to liqueurs with sugar contents up to 450 g/L, as well as ciders – including dry apple wines, traditional styles, and flavored mixtures alike. Even sake is no challenge, with direct measurement of alcohol and extract content without the need for distillation.

Patented, industry-proven alcohol measuring technology
Developed by Anton Paar, the world’s leading provider of density and alcohol measurement in the wine industry, the Alex 301 and Alex 501 stand for uncompromising quality. The patented combination of absorption measurement via near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy and density measurement using the oscillating U-tube principle deliver highly accurate data supported by a comprehensive statistical model for determining alcohol and total extract content. Covering the entire relevant measuring range, it provides direct, real-time results – no separate calculations or distillation steps required.

Reduce paperwork with AP Connect
Experience next-level laboratory data management – whether you're upgrading an existing lab or setting up a new one. The AP Connect lab execution system ensures effortless compliance with regulatory requirements while giving you secure access to lab data anytime, anywhere. Going fully paperless eliminates transcription errors and enhances data accuracy.
