Density measurement gets the battery industry going

Nowadays, renewable energy sources enjoy increased popularity as environmental friendly alternatives to primary cells, but also automotive batteries. Density measurement plays an important role in the manufacturing process of electrode materials for Li-ion batteries.

Rechargeable batteries? Indispensable!

Rechargeable (also: secondary) batteries are used by everybody everywhere in everyone’s everyday lives. They serve as energy storage devices in all kinds of appliances, among them mobile phones and tablets, but also various electric means of transport. Due to their superior performance, Li-ion batteries are among today’s preferred rechargeable batteries for most applications.

The main components of these batteries are their electrodes and the electrolyte. To ensure the high quality of both, careful monitoring is equally essential during the production process and in the final product prior to delivery. While the benefits of density measurements of lithium-containing electrolytes is described elsewhere[1], the question arises: can density measurement also serve the purpose of quality control of electrodes of Li-Ion Batteries? The answer is as short as it is straightforward:

Yes it can.
