Microindentation at elevated temperatures using the temperature scan mode

The development of new materials for renewable energy sources, materials with specific structure and properties such as glass metals or new polymers requires precise knowledge of their mechanical properties. At the early stage of their development such materials are often available in only small quantities or dimensions and therefore their testing is difficult. However, instrumented indentation requires generally small volumes of materials for testing and it is therefore a suitable candidate for characterization of these materials even at elevated temperatures (up to ~400°C). This application report will present the method for indentation testing at elevated temperature using the Microindentation Tester.
