Influence of different stirring methods on the flow behaviour of lime cement plaster

To investigate which stirring method delivers results in the laboratory that reflect the practice at the building site. An MCR Rheometer and the ball measuring system KMS-2 were used.

Introduction

To investigate which stirring method delivers results in the laboratory that reflect the practice at the building site. Two options are available:

  • DIN process (with the Kitchen-Aid stirrer)
  • Hand stirring method

2 Experimental Setup

The evaluation of the suitability of a stirring process is dependent on the flow behavior. It is important that the preparation of the plaster in the laboratory is identical to the procedure on-site. It is also important that a very large part of the shear load is covered. This is simulated in the laboratory test with the help of the flow curve at corresponding shear rates. Both laboratory methods will be compared with the current stirring process used on construction sites (this process is hence referred to as „the method used onsite“).
