Tribology on MCR Rheometers: Introduction and Measurements
Lubrication and wear is of high importance in our daily life. In technical applications friction is usually an undesirable effect as it is related to loss of energy and reduction of lifetime of mechanical parts. On the other hand, for some applications as e.g. tires, friction is definitely required.

Lubrication and wear is of high importance in our daily life. In technical applications friction is usually an undesirable effect as it is related to loss of energy and reduction of lifetime of mechanical parts. On the other hand, for some applications as e.g. tires, friction is definitely required.
The term Tribology is based on the Greek Tribos (to rub) and represents the science and technology of interacting surfaces in relative motion, and embraces the study of friction, lubrication and wear. As a consequence of that, instruments which measure friction and wear are called tribometers.
