Relaxation Behavior of Photoactivatable Vitrimers

Vitrimers are covalently crosslinked polymers with an adaptable network structure and thus, provide unique properties regarding stress relaxation and shape memory.

Vitrimers are covalently crosslinked polymers that exhibit an adaptable network structure by associative bond exchange reactions although the total number of bonds is preserved. While vitrimers behave like conventional thermosetting polymers below the so-called topology freezing transition temperature or vitrification temperature Tv, heating above Tv enables the rearrangement of their network structure. The resulting material flow offers the potential for specific deformation, shaping and joining procedures.

In the present study, the photoactivation of a vitrimer based on a thiol-acrylate network with an incorporated photolatent catalyst was analyzed by stress relaxation measurements.
