Petroleum Industry | FTIR-based characterization of physical properties of bitumen with Lyza 7000

Dedicated chemometric application presets use ATR-FTIR spectra acquired with the Lyza 7000 to estimate important physical properties of bitumen, including the softening point, equi-shear modulus temperature, and phase angle. The predicted values correlate with the standardized reference methods EN 1427 and EN 17643, enabling rapid material characterization.

The physical properties of bitumen are essential parameters for assessing its processing behavior and performance in asphalt applications. Conventional standardized methods such as softening point and rheological measurements provide reliable results but require dedicated laboratory equipment and are comparatively time-consuming.

The Lyza 7000 FTIR spectrometer offers a rapid alternative by combining infrared spectroscopy with chemometric models. Dedicated application presets enable the estimation of selected physical properties directly from an ATR-FTIR spectrum within a few minutes, providing valuable information for routine quality control and material characterization.
