Testing of Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants (EALs)

Using environmentally acceptable lubricants (EALs) may be required when operating in environmentally sensitive areas. They are renewable and environment-friendly. Instruments from Anton Paar help you to ensure the perfect quality of your EALs during production, quality control, transport and storage.

Environmentally acceptable lubricants provide reduced impact on the environment and contribute to improved environmental protection and sustainable development They are derived from vegetable oils, synthetic esters and other renewable sources.

Despite the fact that environmentally acceptable lubricants may be more expensive, it is a growing market owing to government regulations on the use of petroleum-based lubricants on the one hand side and incentives on the use of ecofriendly lubricants on the other hand.

Bio components may improve the eco-balance, however, some of them may have a negative effect on important characteristics of the lubricant and therefore need to be supervised. Drawbacks of EALs may include limited high-temperature performance due to inferior oxidation stability. As eco-friendly lubricants are expected to degrade in the presence of oxygen over time, their shelf-life may also be shorter compared to that of mineral oils.

To assure and maintain the product quality and safety, Anton Paar provides a wide variety of testing instruments and systems.

This application report describes the use of some of Anton Paar’s analytical systems for the testing of environmentally acceptable lubricants
