Short Course on Surface Area and Porous Material Characterisation

This full day course will cover a range of topics from basics of surface area measurement till correlation of data for actual applicability in terms of dissolution rates, reactivity, catalytic activity and disintegration. The participants will further learn how to evaluate Isotherm data to measure parameters like pore volume, pore size distribution, external surface area and many other parameters needed to characterize particles and bulk systems.

Dr. Martin A. Thomas PhD

Dr Martin Thomas has 40 years of industrial experience in the characterization of porous materials and powders. He graduated from the University of Birmingham (UK) with a master’s degree in analytical chemistry and PhD in physical/inorganic chemistry (Ni(OH)2 electrode), and joined Quantachrome Instruments (now Anton Paar QuantaTec) in 1991. He is named on ten patents relating to porous materials and their characterization, and is co-author of “Characterization of Porous Solids and Powders: Surface Area, Pore Size and Density” published by Springer. He has held the position of Global Lead Scientist for Anton Paar QuantaTec’s Surface and Pores product line since 2019.
