Viscosity of Diluted Linear PNIPAM and PNIPAM-Microgel Dispersions

PNIPAM (Poly-N-isopropylacrylamide) is the most prominent example for a synthetic soft polymer in soft matter research. It is of high interest due to its responsiveness to outer stimuli and the extraordinary potential for technical and medical applications.

PNIPAM (Poly-N-isopropylacrylamide) is the most prominent example for a synthetic soft polymer in soft matter research. In this application report, the viscosities of linear PNIPAM chain suspensions and suspensions of their cross-linked counterpart - the microgel particles (MGs) - are measured and compared. Deviating from the more common microgel synthesis in a batch, the MGs here were prepared with the less common feeding method. The data is essential for many fields of research, such as medicine, pharmacy or process engineering.
