Rheological and Dielectric Spectroscopy Testing of Lithium-Ion Battery Anode Slurries

Battery slurries, especially anode slurries, are formulated to optimize properties such as high specific capacity, good adhesion, mechanical stability and electrical conductivity. These properties are essential for efficient battery operation and performance.

Battery slurries, especially anode slurries, are formulated to optimize properties such as high specific capacity, good adhesion, mechanical stability and electrical conductivity. These properties are essential for efficient battery operation and performance. The choice of slurry formulation and mixing process are key factors in the manufacturing process, but also in achieving improved mechanical and electrochemical electrode properties. In addition to rheological properties measured with a Modular Compact Rheometer (MCR), coupling with dielectric spectroscopy provides information not only on the electrical properties of a carbon black ink compared to a Si/C slurry but also on possible structural changes during processing, affecting the quality of the final electrode material and consequently the performance of the battery.
