Nanoindentation: Sample holder for adjustable height
The Anton Paar nanoindenters have excellent thermal stability and the surface reference eliminates the need for frame compliance correction. Positioning correctly the surface reference on soft or miniature samples can however be a little bit tricky in some cases. This application report presents a special sample holder that helps in such situations.
Both UNHT3 and NHT3 systems were designed to handle many types of samples, there are nevertheless some exceptions. These exceptions concern mainly extremely soft and very small samples where it is
difficult or virtually impossible to position both the reference an indenter on the same sample. For both instruments (UNHT3 and NHT3) it is also important that both the indenter and the reference sit at approximately the same heights.
