Material Brief: Bitumen - True Density - Ultrapyc

True density values are determined for bitumen using the Ultrapyc 5000.

Bitumen, a petroleum-based derivative, is commonly used in paving, roofing and construction applications. Producing consistent formulation of bitumen requires thorough analysis of material properties. One important property of bitumen is its true density, which can be correlated to the product’s mass, and can be used to determine the commercial value. Density measurement is an important step in quality control and often is used to generate product specification sheets depicting classification or grade of bitumen for retailing or direct sales.

The Anton Paar Ultrapyc 5000, a temperature-controlled gas pycnometer, was used to measure the true density of bitumen.
