Elongational Rheology of LDPE and HDPE
Extensional deformations play a significant role in many processing applications like coating, spinning, blow molding and foam production. Therefore, the study of extensional flow is becoming one of the most important areas of research in rheology. For ideally viscous fluids at uniaxial extension, the Trouton relation is defined as the ratio of extensional viscosity ηE to shear viscosity ηS. All measurements were carried out with an MCR rheometer.
Introduction
Extensional deformations play a significant role in many processing applications like coating, spinning, blow molding and foam production. Therefore, the study of extensional flow is becoming one of the most important areas of research in rheology. For ideally viscous fluids at uniaxial extension, the Trouton relation is defined as the ratio of extensional viscosity ηE to shear viscosity ηS.
The value of inelastic isotropic fluids, the Trouton relation is equal to 3 for all values of ̇ and ̇ and any departure from the value of 3 can be ascribed to visco-elasticity.
