Digestion in Multiwave 5000 Using HF Complexation of Fluorides

Digestion with hydrofluoric acid is widely used in the analysis of many naturally occurring and industrially produced silicates. This type of digestion is also suitable for a number of other materials like oxides of Nb, Ta, Ti, and Zr.

Introduction

In order to digest and extract all metals quantitatively from matrices containing silicates and oxides, digestion with hydrofluoric acid is carried out in a twostep procedure.

The first step is the digestion itself. The second step is the complexation of HF with boric acid. This does not only help to complex the free fluoride ions in the solution, but it also facilitates the dissolution of precipitated fluorides.
