Comparison of Conventional and Bio-based Friction Modifiers – Stribeck Curves

This report compares the functionality of conventional and bio-based friction modifiers (FMs) at model-scale. The tribological tests were carried out on an MCR 302 Tribometer from Anton Paar using the ball-on-three-plates setup.

Friction modifiers (FMs) are one type of additive, applied to achieve lower friction in machine components and thereby reducing the energy consumption. The replacement of conventional FMs with bio-based FMs presents an essential step towards green and innocuous lubrication. In case of a leakage, those bio-based FMs are not harmful to the environment. This report compares the functionality of conventional and bio-based FMs at model-scale. The tribological tests were carried out on an MCR 302 Tribometer from Anton Paar using the ball-on-three-plates setup.
