Acid Digestion of Fruit Juice in HVT Vessels for the Determination of Trace Elements with ICP Analysis

HVT vessels utilized in Multiwave GO Plus and Multiwave 5000 systems enable efficient digestion of fruit juice and associated samples, ensuring precise and accurate results.

Fruit juices are present in diets worldwide, offering a refreshing and nutritious beverage option. However, to maintain their integrity as safe consumables, it is important to monitor and control the levels of elemental contaminants.

For this purpose, national or international standards like the European Commission Regulation 2023/915 on Maximum Levels for Certain Contaminants in Food, or guidelines like those mentioned by the European Fruit Juice Association (AIJN) have been established.

In this study we adopt a conservative approach utilizing samples spiked at only half of the lowest limits specified for fruit juice in both EU or AIJN documents. These combined limits (50 % Maximum Residual Level, MRL/2) are deemed representative not only of European standards but also of guidelines from various regulatory bodies worldwide.

The verification of the stated digestion method on Multiwave GO Plus with HVT50 venting vessels was done by the determination of the recovery rates of the mentioned elements in three representative fruit juice samples.

As the same vessel technology and digestion conditions can be utilized in the Multiwave 5000, this report also serves as a representative example for Multiwave 5000 and any rotor HVT.
