Acid Digestion of Edible Oils in Multiwave 5000 for the Determination of Trace Elements with ICP Analysis

Rotor 24HVT50 in Multiwave 5000 allows for reliable and quick digestion of edible oils, based on FDA 4.7 method to meet different requirements from all over the world.

Edible oils are one of the basic components of the human diet, along with carbohydrates and proteins. They are mainly vegetable oils such as palm, sunflower, rapeseed, corn, olive, etc. and have a wide range of uses such as cooking, frying and the production of various convenience foods. As with any foodstuff, the content of different trace elements in edible oils must be analyzed on a regular basis to ensure their quality according to national or international (e.g. WHO) standards. To achieve suitable results, high purity of digestion vessels and the acids used for sample preparation are just as important as digestion conditions allowing large amounts of sample.

Within this report the successful digestion of five representative edible oils on Multiwave 5000 with HVT50 vessels is described. The verification of the stated method is done by quantitative elemental analysis of a spiked palm oil sample by ICP-MS.
