ABA X00: Correlation between standard cup and mini-cup

Using the sample quantity of 75 mL for a flash point determination as stated in the standard is not always possible because some samples are very expensive or only available in small amounts. As a solution, Anton Paar offers an improved mini-cup for the new ABA X00 flash point tester series.

For the new instruments ABA 300 and ABA 500, Anton Paar now offers a newly developed optimized version of the mini-cup. 

For this application report, first we tested typical samples (jet fuel, solvents, cosmetic products, flavors and fragrances) as defined in the standard ISO 13736 using standard test equipment and the standard sample volume of 75 mL to determine a reference flash point value.

Then, the same samples were tested in different volumes using the mini-cup test equipment to compare the flash point results. The results were very near the standard results and convinced with a very good correlation.
