3-PB of Bitumen Using a Rheometer Equipped with an Additional Lower Linear Drive

Rheological characterization of the low-temperature properties of asphalt binder is usually carried out using a standardized test procedure in the bending beam rheometer (BBR). In this study, the dynamic shear rheometer (DSR) equipped with an additional linear drive is tested as a replacement for the BBR in the performance of three-point bending tests.

In this study, which has already been published in a detailed and extended form by Kim et al. (2022), the applicability of three-point bending (3PB) tests using a dynamic shear rheometer (DSR) equipped with a linear
drive is investigated. Suitable dimensions of specimens and corresponding procedures for specimen preparation are presented. How the test was conducted is also explained and the results are correlated with BBR tests.
