Have a Good Trip
Refractometers are widely used in the automotive industry, e.g. to control the quality of oils, chemical liquids and solids such as plastics and glasses.
Walking isn't a lost art — one must, by some means, get to the garage
To construct a good car, the good quality of all products needs to be ensured. Refractometers are used for quality control of various liquids and solids:
• Glasses and polymers
• Anti-freeze agents, windshield washer water, brake fluid
• Solvents (e.g. acetone)
• Cooling agents and lubricating oils
• Paintings and coatings
Apart from the refractive index, the concentration of binary mixtures can be measured.
The Abbemat refractometer family from Anton Paar
The Abbemat refractometer family from Anton Paar is ideal to control the quality of a variety of different liquid and solid samples with high accuracy.
As the refractive index is temperature-dependent, all Abbemat refractometers have a Peltier temperature control for quick and accurate adjustment of the reference temperature. For a multi-parameter analysis, Abbemat refractometers can be combined with further instruments, e.g. density meters or viscometers from Anton Paar.
Compared to other methods for determining quality, refractometry is rapid and accurate in determining quality as well as concentrations of binary mixtures.
Other relevant instruments
The density of oils and chemicals can be determined with an Anton Paar density meter.
Good to know
The refractive index can be used, for example, to control the quality of oils, chemical liquids and solids such as plastics and glasses.
