Seminar on Mechanical Surface Characterization of Coatings for Academic Research

Formation de base

Understanding and characterizing the surface properties of functionalized coatings is critical. Developments of various coating techniques such as PVD and CVD, plasma spray coatings, anodic oxidation coatings, chemical and galvanic deposits, polymers and paints have created a huge demand to characterize mechanical properties of surfaces and coatings.

Amongst the properties that are of great interest to be measured, either in research or industry, are scratch resistance, coating adhesion, hardness, elastic modulus, tribological and viscoelastic properties.

Such measurements are performed not only to develop new coatings and improve the coating processes but also for quality control means. Anton Paar provides different solutions for surface characterization, suited for researchers and manufacturers alike.

Pavel Sedmak, PhD.

Pavel Sedmak is Product Manager at Anton Paar TriTec. He obtained his PhD in materials science at the Czech Technical University in Prague (Czech Republic). He continued as a post-doc at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) in France, working on the ID11 materials science beamline. He joined Anton Paar TriTec in 2020, and since then has gained deep knowledge in instrumented indentation, scratch testing, and tribology. His main tasks are laboratory measurement for customers and generating analytical and application reports using Anton Paar products, for scientific and industrial projects.
