Pulp and Paper | Rotational Viscosity Testing of Paper Mills with ViscoQC
The ViscoQC 100/300 is suitable for viscosity tests according to the TAPPI standard T 648 and T 697. Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry (TAPPI) publishes test methods for quality control of pulp and paper manufacturing.
TAPPI (Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry) is a non-profit organization with members in the pulp and paper industry. They publish standards including test methods for quality control of pulp and paper manufacturing.
Viscosity is one of the parameters which is checked during manufacturing. A rotational viscometer like ViscoQC 100/300 can be used for a compliant measurement according to TAPPI T 648 and TAPPI T 697. Both standards describe a test method for a “low-shear viscometer” like ViscoQC. For testing the high-shear rate viscosity another instrument type is necessary.
The standard TAPPI T 648 describes a test method for paper coats. A proper viscosity of paper coats assures convenient coating with a uniform and nice finish.
The standard TAPPI T 697 describes a test method for analyzing the stability of clay slurries. It is necessary to maintain a low-viscosity for a certain period of time because otherwise it cannot be pumped anymore with slurry-handling equipment.
