Coenzyme Q10 - Organic Nanoparticle Characterization

Different measurement methods, such as dynamic light scattering, small angle X-ray scattering and rheometry, have been employed for the characterization of liquid coenzyme Q10 nanoparticles prepared by anti-solvent precipitation.

Organic nanoparticles find wide application in various fields such as pharmaceutical technology, food nanotechnology and optoelectronics. The characterization of the nanoparticles is crucial for tailoring their properties for targeted development. Size, shape, internal structure of nanoparticles but also their matrix environment significantly alter these properties. Thus, in-depth characterization is a prerequisite for understanding the structure-function relation.

This application report demonstrates the power of dynamic light scattering (DLS) and small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) for the determination of the size of organic nanoparticles in an aqueous dispersion. Furthermore, the viscosity of the dispersions and the zeta potential of the dispersed particles are determined.
