Dynamic Mechanical Characterization of Fully Bio-Based Composites

High-performance composites made of bio-based polymer matrix and natural fiber reinforcement are gaining highest interest in terms of sustainable material development. In this study, the basic dynamic mechanical properties of a newly developed flax fiber reinforced bio polymer are investigated.

Sustainable material development with regard to bio-based so-called "green composites", is currently one of the most important topics in the plastics industry. In this study dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) was performed in order to obtain a comprehensive property profile of a fully bio-based material. Both, the neat bio-based resin and the corresponding flax fiber reinforced composite were successfully characterized by the use of the air-bearing-based Modular Compact Rheometer from Anton Paar with an additional lower linear drive (MCR).
