Material Brief: Copper on alumina – TPR & activation energy – Autosorb 3300

A copper (13 wt%) on alumina catalyst was characterized by temperature programmed reduction (TPR) using the Autosorb 3300 gas mixing function.

Before running a time- and resource-consuming catalytic test, a reducibility study can be done to screen catalysts. The principle is to run a temperature programmed reduction (TPR) measurement to determine at which temperature the catalyst is reduced. The Autosorb 3300 is the instrument of choice for this analysis because of its exquisite control of the heating ramp, its thermal conductivity detector (TCD) (particularly sensitive to hydrogen consumption), and its capacity to mix gases, (e.g., to produce 5% hydrogen in argon). In addition, all data reduction and calculations, including for the activation energy, can be done in the Kaomi React software.
