Low Temperature Gas Pycnometer Measurements

To illustrate the use of the Ultrapyc 5000 at sub-ambient temperatures, water and ice cream were analyzed at 3 °C. These sub-ambient measurements may have applicability for substances such as dairy products, construction materials, and other semi-solids that are typically stored at lower temperatures.

To demonstrate the accuracy of the Ultrapyc at 3 °C, a refrigerated water sample and ice cream samples (vanilla and chocolate chip) were measured on the Ultrapyc 5000. Results indicate that the Ultrapyc 5000 is an excellent instrument for measuring the density of refrigerated substances that may undergo density changes with temperature. Highly accurate and repeatable measurements ensure that small differences in the density of the various constituents and final product can be detected easily and confidently.
