Measurement of non-alcoholic and alcohol-free beer

Non-alcoholic and Alcohol-free beer are facing growing demand. This presents producers with major technological challenges to produce beer with the same sensory properties but without alcohol while ensuring compliance with national regulations. To detect the alcohol content, both the Pressurized Beer Measurement System and the Beer Measuring System can be used.

Beer is a beverage of global popularity, consumed in various countries worldwide. The beer market has witnessed significant growth in the consumption of low- and non-alcoholic beer, driven by factors such as health concerns, safety considerations in both professional and social environments, and the impact of strict social regulations.

This Application Report considers the development of this beer style, defines the terms ‘non-alcoholic’ and ‘alcohol-free’, and gives an overview of today’s common production methods. Furthermore, 14 commercial alcohol-free beers were analyzed in a Packaged Beer Measurement System, a Beer Measurement System, and with gas chromatography for reference to investigate whether it is possible to measure these beers reliably with our systems.
