Accuracy traceable to metrological reference standards
The Abbemat refractometers offer unparalleled accuracy and traceability for refractive index (RI) measurements. With precision up to ±0.00002 nD (±0.015 °Brix), they deliver reliable results across a wide range from 1.26 nD to 1.72 nD. This is achieved by supreme control of temperature up to ± 0.03 °C, a carefully adjusted wavelength, and use of the most precise calibration standards from metrological institutes (GUM, PTB). All Abbemat refractometers come with a comprehensive set of certificates as proof. Both refractive index and temperature can be verified on-site over the entire life of your instrument.
Efficiency for high-throughput laboratories
Abbemat refractometers reduce measurement cycles to 10 seconds including documentation of results. The user interface only provides the information needed, making operation easy and keeping training efforts low. Product-specific workflows and up to 200 pre-installed concentration scales replace time-consuming methods like titration. Abbemat refractometers can automatically run samples with XSample 520 autosamplers. They integrate with Anton Paar's density meters, viscosity meters, and polarimeters, allowing for automated multiparameter measurements within a single workflow.
Safety for hazardous samples
Flow cells for the Abbemat refractometers make handling of hazardous and volatile samples easy and safe. Samples can be applied by syringe or autosampler without direct user contact. Exposure via evaporation is minimized by a closed system. Only 70 µL of sample are required, further reducing the risk.

The heart of the Abbemat refractometers, the measuring prism, is made from sapphire. It boasts an exceptional hardness with a Mohs rating of 9, nearly matching diamond. This provides superior resistance to scratches from laboratory tools, ensuring long-term accuracy and reliability, backed by a 25-year warranty on the prism. The sample well is made of high-grade stainless steel. It provides excellent chemical resistance. The optional Hastelloy sample well even resists extremely corrosive substances like concentrated nitric and sulfuric acids.

The Abbemat Pharma refractometers comply with – and even exceed – the requirements of pharmaceutical regulations 21 CFR Part 11, GAMP 5, and EU GMP Vol. 4 Annex 11.
