Distillation of Rolling Oils with Diana 700
Diana 700 can be used for the characterization of rolling oils typical in the production of thin metal sheets. Distillations according to ASTM standard D86 showed that the boiling characteristics were highly dependent on the specific rolling oil composition.
Rolling oils play a vital role in the metalworking industry, directly impacting the efficiency and quality of the rolling process. These specialized lubricants are designed to mediate the friction between metal surfaces in order to preserve the machinery by minimizing wear and to allow precise control over the final thickness and surface finish of the substrate.
The distillation characteristics of a rolling oil are important indicators of its performance and a useful process control parameter for determining rectification intervals. This application report demonstrates how the Diana 700 can be used for the fast and easy characterization of different rolling oils based on distillations according to the standard ASTM D86.
