KOH, also known as potassium hydroxide or caustic pot-ash is a strong alkali with similar properties to caustic soda (NaOH). The possible applications of this corrosive chemical are versatile and involve the chemical industry, semiconductor, petroleum and food industry as well as battery, H2 and fertilizer production or the treatment of metals, etching of glass and many more.
Today, the industrial production of KOH is conducted via electrolysis of potassium chloride and subsequent evap-oration of the solution obtained.
Afterwards, the solution is either sold as a concentrate (45 % to 55 %) or deluded down to a certain target con-centration.
Delivering and knowing the correct KOH concentration is essential for all these as well as for further processing steps. Determining the inline concentration of KOH is not straightforward and requires suitable measuring instru-ments with appropriate wetted parts.
