Particle Characterization by Size and Morphology – Corcelles

Formation de base

In this course, participants will learn about the theory of light scattering and the relevance of size and morphology in particle characterization. The principles of laser diffraction and image analysis will be covered, as well as understanding the pros and cons between the two techniques and advantages of choosing one over the other. In the afternoon, participants will have hands-on experience with both instruments, the Litesizer DIF (laser diffraction) and the Litesizer DIA series (dynamic image analysis). After these experiments, data interpretation and analysis will be discussed in small groups. 

Requirements:

Ideally suited for professionals active in material sciences, particle formulation and processing.

Dr. David Burnand, Dr. Marija Petrović (Langues: English)

Groupe cible: Scientists who wants to learn more about the possibilities of Anton Paar’s size distribution equipment, already owns a particle size instrument or wants to deepen their knowledge about new technologies on the market.
Conditions préalables: Candidates should ideally have a basic knowledge of material characterization and experience with particle size analyzers.

Dr. David Burnand

David Burnand, born in 1985 in Lausanne, studied chemical engineering at HEIA-FR in Fribourg. After completing his Master of Science in Chemistry, he earned his PhD in colloidal chemistry from the Adolphe Merkle Institute in 2018, focusing on the design and characterization of polymer-coated nanoparticles for biomedical applications. Building on his strong expertise in nanomaterials, David has been working since 2022 as an Application Specialist for material characterization and rheology at Anton Paar Switzerland.

Dr. Marija Petrović

Marija Petrović, born in 1992, studied pharmacy and earned her PhD in Biopharmacy from the University of Geneva, specializing in nanomedicine. Her research focused on RNA and STING ligand nanocomplexes for cancer immunotherapy, with an emphasis on nanoparticle characterization and translational relevance, which later was translated to NanoSphere platform. Building on this expertise, she has been working since November 2025 as a Product Specialist at Anton Paar Switzerland.
