Material Brief: Flour - Tapped Density - Ultratap 500 Series

Five commercially-available flours were analyzed using the Ultratap 500 Twin. The bulk density, tapped density, Carr’s compressibility index, and Hausner ratio values were calculated by the instrument after the final volume was entered on the touchscreen.

This study followed the ASTM D7481 Standard Test Methods for Determining Loose and Tapped Bulk Densities of Powders using a Graduated Cylinder method included with the Ultratap 500 to measure the bulk and tapped density of five different commercially-available flours. The Ultratap 500 Twin calculated the bulk density, tapped density, Carr’s compressibility index, and Hausner ratio values based on the volumes entered by the user. This report discusses the data obtained and any similarities or differences found in the flours.
