Petroleum Industry | FTIR analysis of bitumen: ATR Methods Using Diamond ATR and ZnSe HATR
FTIR spectroscopy makes it possible to draw conclusions about the chemical composition of bitumen and bitumen-containing binders without complex sample preparation and within very short measurement times. The resulting FTIR spectra provide insights regarding the aging state or progression, as well as possible modification with various additives. The use of ATR technology allows for fast and straightforward sample measurements.
Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR spectroscopy) is an analytical method used to detect specific compounds and molecular structures within a sample, providing insights into its chemical structure.
FTIR spectroscopy ideally complements the standard physical and rheological characterization of bitumen by adding structural information that enables more detailed analysis—for example, regarding the aging state, aging progression, or the presence of additives.
