Workshop on Advanced Surface Characterization of Coating Materials

Understanding surface properties is essential in the development, performance evaluation, and quality control of coated materials. These techniques play a crucial role across industries such as tool manufacturing, PVD/CVD coatings, hard coatings, automotive paint, cutting tools, piston rings, glass, ceramics, and other advanced engineering materials.

This workshop will introduce key surface characterization methods:

  • Nanoindentation for measuring coating hardness and mechanical properties
  • Scratch Testing for evaluating coating adhesion and failure modes
  • Tribometry for determining wear behaviour and friction coefficients
  • Coating Thickness Measurement for accurate measurement of coating thickness, including multilayer structures
