Additive manufacturing is the future of manufacturing technology. Three-dimensional printing increasingly complements conventional manufacturing techniques and is already being used successfully in many demanding industries such as the medical sector, the automotive industry and aerospace. One of the most well-known additive manufacturing processes is the material extrusion (MEX) of thermoplastic materials. With new applications, new polymers with tailor-made properties will be developed. Exact knowledge of the flow behaviour of polymer melts is essential for MEX processing and the manufacturing of high-quality 3D parts. The key to successful use of rheology is to identify the relevant parameters that correlate with the required properties.

One of the main areas of expertise of Dr. Duretek is the measurement of rheological and thermal data of polymers, PIM feedstocks and WPC for the simulation of accordant processing technologies.
