Nanoparticle Analysis: Real-World Insights in Record Time
Nanoparticles are widely used, from food packaging and coatings to drug delivery. Yet rapid, real-space insight into their size and shape remains a challenge. With the SAXSpoint 700 and the advanced PDDF and RG tools in the new SAXSanalysis software, key structural parameters are now obtained even from low-concentrated dispersions in under a minute – without the need of model fitting or synchrotron access. Here, we highlight how a 30-second SAXS measurement reveals the particle size, shape and homogeneity in a silica nanoparticle formulation.
Introduction
Nanoparticle dispersions are widely used in materials science, pharmaceutical formulations, and colloidal processing (1). However, rapid, reliable structural characterization in real time has remained a challenge - especially when working with dilute systems and tight process windows. The SAXSpoint 700, together with the automated real-space tools in SAXSanalysis, enables fast, model-free evaluation of size and shape, directly from scattering data. This application report highlights how even a 30-second SAXS measurement is sufficient to extract meaningful structural parameters from a dilute silica dispersion.
